Retired Teacher Jailed for Sex Attacks on Four Children
Gabriel Uttley, 62, was locked up for four years yesterday after being found guilty of seven indecent assaults on three boys and one girl. The attacks took place over six years in Wickford and Rawreth.
Shocking Abuse Exposed After Years
The horrific crimes came to light in January 2017 when police were alerted. Following a detailed investigation, Uttley was charged earlier this year. His trial at Basildon Crown Court began on 9 November and ended with a guilty verdict on 13 November.
Lifetime Restrictions Imposed on Convicted Teacher
Uttley, a retired teacher from Lundy Close, has also been slapped with a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and added to the Sex Offenders Register for life. Justice has finally caught up with the predator.
Police Praise Courage of Victims and Call for Others to Speak Out
“I want to thank the victims for their strength in coming forward and supporting our investigation throughout,” said DC Ian Burgess.
“It has been really difficult for them to talk about what happened and give evidence in court, but I hope this sentence reassures them that Uttley has been brought to justice.”
“I also thank the witness service volunteers who support victims and witnesses at court.”
“If you have been sexually abused, no matter how long ago, please report it. We will take it seriously, investigate, and provide the support you need.”
