Ex-West Midlands Police Officer Jailed for Child Sex Crimes
A former Walsall copper has been locked up for child sex offences after abusing his position of trust. Ross O’Grady, 47, from Brownhills, was sentenced to 13 years behind bars on Wednesday 30 October at wolverhampton/" title="Wolverhampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Wolverhampton Crown Court. He must also sign the sex offender register for life.
From Beat to Behind Bars
O’Grady originally denied eight counts of sexual assault against three victims dating from 2014 to 2016. But he later admitted to five offences during the trial. The shocking crimes came to light in 2017 after the victims bravely spoke out.
West Midlands Police investigation found some attacks took place while O’Grady was still on the force. However, he had already been dismissed in June 2016 for gross misconduct connected to an unrelated theft matter.
Victims Show Bravery in Court
The victims faced their trauma head-on by giving evidence in court, helping to bring this vile predator to justice.
“O’Grady’s behaviour was despicable. He held a position of trust and abused it with these heinous crimes,” said Detective Sergeant Sam Kirk from the West Midlands public protection unit.
“I commend the bravery of his victims. This has been an extremely traumatic time for them. There is no place in society for this kind of behaviour and O’Grady must now serve time behind bars.”
