Man Charged with Murder and Arson After Gillingham Blaze

A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder and arson following a deadly fire in Gillingham. Firefighters found the body of 68-year-old Alan Wyatt at a property on Firethorn Close after responding to a blaze at around 10.30am on Thursday 14 February 2019.

Suspect in Custody

The Crown Prosecution Service has charged Michael Bryant-McMurchie, of Firethorn Close, with murder and arson. He remains in custody and is set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 18 February 2019.

Police Appeal for Dashcam and CCTV Footage

Detectives are hunting for any motorists with dashcams who were in or near these Gillingham streets between 7am and 11am on 14 February:

  • The Vineries
  • Castlemaine Avenue (between The Vineries and Grange Road)
  • Grange Road (between Ingram Road and Castlemaine Avenue)
  • Parr Avenue
  • Burnt Oak Terrace

They’re also urging local residents and businesses with CCTV in the area to share any footage from that morning – no matter how insignificant it may seem.
