Blaze Erupts Above CEX Store in East Ham
A major fire tore through the building above the CEX store on High Street North, East Ham, tonight (September 19, 2024). The London Fire Brigade scrambled eight fire engines and roughly 60 firefighters to tackle the intense blaze.
Emergency Services Battle Blaze Through the Night
Emergency services were flooded with calls reporting the fire around 9pm. Firefighters deployed a 32-metre turntable ladder to fight the flames from above. The fire engulfed part of a four-room flat, a loft conversion, and the loft roof. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries or trapped individuals so far.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area, as crews continue to battle the blaze. Nearby roads remain closed with diversions in place, causing disruption around East Ham town centre.
Fire Under Control But Cause Remains a Mystery
Control officers received the first call at 8:15pm, and the fire was brought under control by 10:58pm. Fire crews from East Ham, Brixton, Poplar, and other nearby stations joined the fight.
A spokesman said: “The fire involved a shop with dwellings above it. Crews worked hard to contain it.” The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
