Homeless Man Jailed After Brandishing Knife in Newport

A homeless pensioner was slapped with a remand after flashing a knife in Newport yesterday.

70-Year-Old Arrested in Scarrotts Lane

Malcolm Swann, 70, with no fixed address, was nabbed around 4.30pm on Thursday in Scarrotts Lane. Cops charged him with two counts of threatening people with a blade in public.

Serious Charges Laid

  • Threatening a person with a sharp weapon in a public place
  • Using threatening or abusive language to cause harassment or distress

Next Court Date Set for June

Swann faced magistrates this afternoon and was remanded in custody with no bail application made. He’s due at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on June 11.
