Huddersfield Sex Offender Gets Extra Jail Time for Fresh Abuse

Duane Holland, 38, a convicted sex offender from Huddersfield, has had his prison sentence extended after being found guilty of new sexual crimes. He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on July 10 following a jury trial.

New Convictions for Horrific Abuse of Young Boys

Holland, currently held at HMP Armley, was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of indecent assault. The offences, committed between 2000 and 2004, involved two victims aged under 16 at the time.

He was originally jailed for 12 years in 2013 for separate sexual offences. Following the latest conviction, an additional four years were added to his sentence. Holland will also face a five-year extended licence and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Victims Brave Enough to Speak Out Years Later

The new crimes came to light in 2020 when the victims, now adults, reported the abuse to the police. Kirklees District Child Safeguarding Unit launched an investigation, even travelling abroad to interview one victim living in Sweden.

“The conviction and sentencing of Holland today represents justice for both victims who have shown real bravery in coming forward,” said Detective Constable Paul Campbell, who led the inquiry. “It shows that no matter how long ago offences took place, or where victims live, we will thoroughly investigate all reports.”

“Even if an offender is already convicted, it’s never too late for victims to speak up. We are a victim-focused organisation and will always listen and act on reports of sexual offending.”

Police Pledge Support and Justice for Victims

DC Campbell added: “It’s crucial that serious offenders like Holland face full accountability and that victims receive the support they need. We’re committed to ensuring victims are heard and feel safeguarded.”
