A Hungarian lorry driver has been locked up for 13 years after trying to smuggle 29kg of heroin into the UK. The National Crime Agency (NCA) cracked down on the haul, seizing drugs worth nearly £3 million.
Smuggler Gutted Over Small Haul
At Canterbury Crown Court, 54-year-old Tibor Dobos blasted his luck. He was fuming that he only got caught with 29kg of heroin, a street value tipped at £2.9 million.
Text messages on his phone revealed he had grander plans. Dobos aimed to bring in a whopping 60kg, worth a jaw-dropping £6 million, hoping to cash in big time.
Fingerprints and Texts Nail Dobos
Despite his denials, the evidence stacked up against Dobos. His fingerprints were found all over the boxes hiding the drugs, stashed somewhere between Italy and Belgium. He even sent messages confirming he hid the heroin.
NCA Pledges to Smash Class A Crime
“Working with partners at home and abroad, the NCA will continue to do everything possible to fight the Class A drugs threat.”
The fight to stop deadly Class A drugs hitting UK roads is far from over.
