Salvation Army Sergeant Major Jailed in US for Soliciting Teen

Roy Anthony Williams, a senior Salvation Army figure on the Isle of Wight, is now behind bars in a US prison. He faces sentencing after pleading guilty to trying to lure a 13-year-old girl into aggravated statutory rape.

Shocking Messages Exposed

The offences happened last summer while Williams was travelling across America. He reportedly met the girl online and bombarded her with vile messages. Lenoir City Police Sgt. Lynette Ladd revealed Williams sent texts asking, “Are you still OK about me taking ur virginity?” He also told her, “It’s never been about sex. It’s much more. I love you. I desire you.”

Police caught Williams at a local motel after he invited the teenager to his room.

Williams was a familiar face organising Christmas lunches for the elderly and vulnerable on the Isle of Wight. The Salvation Army responded swiftly, removing him from their membership on August 3, 2017. A spokesperson said:

“We are shocked and horrified by these charges. We take child protection very seriously and have robust safeguarding procedures in place. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by his actions.”

Next Steps in Court

Williams is held by the Knox County Sheriff’s office, awaiting sentencing. The News-Herald predicts he will enter a plea deal with the District Attorney. His next court appearance is set for January 30, 2018, in front of Judge Varlan at the US District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
