Physio Who Sexually Assaulted Patients Jailed for Six Years

Predatory Physiotherapist Exploited Patients Over Five Years

Purnoor Bawa abused his position as a physiotherapist, sexually assaulting multiple female clients during treatment between 2013 and 2018. Despite early concerns about his behaviour, he continued offending, manipulating victims into removing clothing for “treatment” that was never necessary.

Police Step In After Inappropriate Massage Complaint

In December 2018, Kent Police were called to Bawa’s clinic in gravesend/" title="Gravesend" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Gravesend after a woman reported an inappropriate massage during her ankle injury treatment. At the time, Bawa should not have been working unaccompanied, as he was under investigation by the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service, which eventually banned him from practising.

Victims Brave Enough to Come Forward

Following his arrest and police inquiries, five women came forward by April 2023 with allegations. Detailed investigations gave police enough evidence to charge Bawa. A police press release prompted two more victims to speak out.

Justice Served at Woolwich Crown Court

Bawa, 44, was convicted on eight counts of sexual assault at Woolwich Crown Court. He was sentenced on 14 June 2024 to six years behind bars.

“Purnoor Bawa manipulated and groomed his victims, making them think his actions were justified when in reality he was taking advantage of them for his own depraved ends,” said Detective Constable Peter Hylands.

“With no CCTV, independent witnesses, or other evidence, it was the courage and strength of the victims that secured this conviction. Bawa is unfit to practice and a danger to women—he belongs behind bars.”
