Knife-Wielding Neighbour Threatens to Kill in Sneinton Block
John McCormick, 59, is on thin ice after threatening to kill a neighbour with a 20cm chopping knife in a Sneinton block of flats. The chilling showdown happened on a landing at Newark Crescent, witnessed by the victim’s partner, who was left “terrified” on June 23, 2019.
More Trouble After Court Case Starts
McCormick wasn’t done yet. While his affray case was ongoing, he sparked fresh chaos on October 18, 2020. A fed-up neighbour recorded McCormick’s disruptive antics as advised by the local council. Spotting the camera, McCormick cursed and threatened to set the neighbour’s flat on fire. Police were called again, leading to another arrest and a charge for threatening property damage.
Suspended Prison Sentence for Repeat Offender
On Friday 13 January 2023, Nottingham Crown Court handed McCormick an eight-month prison term, suspended for two years. The judge warned that any further offences will see him behind bars immediately. The threatening property damage charge will also be added to his criminal record.
Police Take a Firm Stance Against Anti-Social Behaviour
“This kind of behaviour is utterly unacceptable and will always bring with it a very swift police response,” said PC Man Wong of Nottinghamshire Police. “I am relieved that McCormick has been dealt with by the courts, and I hope that this experience will provide him with the motivation he requires to control his temper.”
