Stalking orders hit 100 as police crack down on predators
Kent Police have hit a milestone, issuing their 100th Stalking Protection Order (SPO) in December 2022. These orders let officers step in early to shield victims before a conviction, giving police more time to investigate while keeping stalkers at bay.
Stopping Stalkers in Their Tracks
The latest SPO targeted a 28-year-old involved in persistent unwanted contact, coercive control, and even death threats. The order forces the perpetrator to register and stay away, acting as a vital barrier against further abuse.
Police Praise the Power of SPOs
“We are pleased to have secured 100 Stalking Protection Orders, which is an extremely valuable tool and help us further protect victims whilst our officers carry out full and thorough investigations,” said Tracey Harman, Assistant Chief Constable of Kent Police.
“The order is not an alternative to prosecution; it’s one tool among many to safeguard victims. Sometimes victims prefer intervention over prosecution, especially in domestic abuse cases, but no matter the outcome, victims in Kent will always receive protection and support.”
