Huddersfield Killer Jailed for Double Murder
Rashane Douglas, 19, from Huddersfield’s Jade Place, has been locked up for life with a minimum of 28 years after being found guilty of brutally murdering two young men. The horrific attack took place in Halifax town centre in the early hours of October 1 last year.
Victims Attacked Outside Nightclub
The victims, 19-year-old Haidar Shah and 21-year-old Joshua Clark, were viciously assaulted outside a nightclub on Commercial Street. Both were rushed to hospital but tragically died from their injuries. A third teen, aged 18, was seriously hurt but survived after emergency treatment.
Investigation and Arrest
The brutal attack triggered a swift police response at 3:48am on that Sunday morning. Douglas handed himself in voluntarily at Huddersfield Police Station later the same day. He was charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder, and possession of an offensive weapon.
After a tense three-week trial at Bradford Crown Court, Douglas was found guilty of the double murders on March 12. He was cleared of attempted murder but convicted of wounding with intent relating to the surviving 18-year-old.
Accomplice Sentenced for Assisting Offender
Another man connected to the case, 18-year-old Yaseen Iqbal, was convicted of assisting an offender and sentenced to 12 months in a Young Offenders Institution.
Police Warn: Knife Crime Kills
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth of West Yorkshire Police said, “Whilst the sentence today won’t bring Haidar and Josh back, we hope it offers some comfort that Douglas has been brought to justice. This tragic case highlights the devastating human cost of carrying knives and is a stark warning of the terrible consequences of knife crime.”
