Birmingham Stabbing Spree: Ambulances Swarm City Centre Overnight
Chaos erupted in Birmingham City Centre overnight as multiple stabbings sent shockwaves through the streets. Emergency services scrambled to three separate stabbing scenes over an hour and twenty minutes, starting just after midnight.
Three Attack Sites, Seven Victims Treated
- First call at the Colmore Row / Livery Street junction at 12.40am
- Second incident at Irving Street at 1.52am
- Third attack on Hurst Street at 2.00am
Paramedics raced to the scenes with 14 ambulances, 11 paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team, and four critical care teams including doctors and specialist paramedics.
St John Ambulance volunteers at the SafeSpace project in the Arcadian also helped treat casualties and transported one patient.
Critical Injuries and Tragic Death
Medics treated seven victims. Five were rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s major trauma centre. Three suffered critical injuries. Tragically, a man died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Two others with less severe wounds were taken to Heartlands Hospital. An eighth victim, with minor injuries, did not require ambulance care.
Emergency Services On High Alert
The ambulance trust declared a major incident standby, sending extra teams on alert across the city. Senior officers, including the Chief Executive, gathered at Trust HQ to manage the response.
Assistant Chief Ambulance Officer Nathan Hudson said: “This was clearly a very serious situation with a large number of patients, some with very serious injuries.
“My thoughts are with the families of those hurt, particularly of the man who tragically lost his life.
“I must pay tribute to the ambulance staff who worked so hard at the scene and en-route to hospital to help each of the patients hurt.
“We train for incidents like this regularly, which meant we could deploy a large number of ambulance resources very quickly so patients got the care they needed as fast as possible.”
