Fury After Fatal Punch in Nottingham Nights
Just after 3.30am on Saturday, March 5, Nathaniel Bierley was enjoying a night out with friends on Upper Parliament Street, Nottingham, when Kyle Turton landed a devastating blow. The 21-year-old’s punch knocked Nathaniel unconscious, sending him crashing to the ground.
Nathaniel, 26, was rushed to hospital but tragically died 12 days later on March 17.
Court Hears Shocking Details of the Attack
CCTV quickly identified Turton as the main suspect, showing him behaving aggressively and standing closest to Nathaniel when the fatal punch landed.
At Nottingham Crown Court on July 29, Turton, from Clifton, admitted manslaughter and was slapped with a nine-year prison sentence, plus five years on licence upon release.
Evidence revealed Turton had been drinking heavily that night and was “looking to start a fight”. Friends described his behaviour as “aggressive and jumpy.”
Sister’s Heartbreaking Tribute to Nathaniel
“Nathaniel was the best brother we could have asked for,” said his sister Louisa, reading a powerful statement in court.
“He was courageous, full of life, and wanted to make a difference. He travelled the world and touched everyone he met.”
“You wrecked every Christmas, birthday, and special moment with your actions. You took not just Nathaniel’s life but shattered all of ours.”
“I had never seen my mum cry until that day. It broke my heart.”
Louisa revealed the dreams Nathaniel had for her, like helping her buy her first car after she passed her test, dreams now forever lost.
Judge Slams ‘Unjustified’ Attack
Judge Stuart Rafferty QC condemned Turton’s actions as “completely unjustified and unnecessary.”
“Nathaniel did nothing to deserve this. You didn’t intend to kill him, but your punch ended his life and devastated his family.”
“You’ve been out of control for a long time. You had no business interfering in an argument.”
“Nathaniel was unconscious before he hit the ground. If you’re not ashamed, you should be.”
Police and Family Demand Justice
Detective Constable Rebecca Butler praised Nathaniel’s family for their strength. “This one act of aggression has landed Turton in prison for nearly a decade,” she said.
“A single punch turned one night out into a lifetime of regret and grief for everyone involved. We will never tolerate such violence.”
The family added: “Nothing can bring Nathaniel back, but we are comforted Turton will spend significant time behind bars reflecting on what he has done.”
