Pontefract Man Jailed for 11 Years Over Shocking Child Sex Crimes

David Dunn, 39, from Pontefract, was today sentenced to 11 years behind bars at Leeds Crown Court. The brutal sexual offences date back over a decade and involved two children in the Wakefield District.

Guilty of Multiple Child Sex Offences

Dunn was convicted of rape of a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, attempted rape, and indecency. The crimes took place between 2002 and 2009. After a detailed investigation, the court found him guilty beyond doubt.

Victims’ Brave Reports Lead to Justice

The case exploded in 2019 when both victims, acting independently, reported the historic abuse. Child protection officers launched a swift probe, led by Detective Constable Sophie Green.

“Their courage in reporting these dreadful offences and in supporting the prosecution against Dunn has meant that a dangerous sexual offender had been forced to answer for his crimes and been punished for them,” said DC Green.

Police Urge Victims to Speak Out

DC Green reminded victims it’s never too late to come forward. She acknowledged how tough it is but promised full police support for anyone seeking justice and help.
