Three Police Officers Hurt in Mystery Liquid Attack on City Centre Street
Three police officers were left injured after an unknown liquid was hurled at them during a tense early-morning incident in the heart of the city.
Early Hours Assault on King Street
The shocking attack took place on King Street at around 4.50am last Sunday (24 August) while officers were responding to reports of a fight.
Officers Rushed to Hospital
The substance caused severe irritation to their skin and eyes. Paramedics treated the officers, who were monitored for several hours before being discharged.
Leicestershire Police confirm that medical experts do not expect any lasting damage from the exposure.
Man Arrested as Investigation Intensifies
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance. He remains in police custody pending questioning.
Detectives believe the liquid may have also affected members of the public nearby.
Police Issue Urgent Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said: “While we don’t yet know what the substance is, tests are ongoing. Medical advice indicates no lasting harm will come from it. We’re aware others in the area may have been contaminated. If you were nearby, have the substance on your clothing, or witnessed anything before, during, or after this incident, please get in touch.”
Officers have reviewed CCTV footage showing the area was busy at the time.
