Man Charged Over Child Sex Offence Sparks Chaos in Leigh Park
Riot Erupts as Lee Comley Is Arrested
A 38-year-old man has been charged with arranging or facilitating a child sex offence after his arrest in Leigh Park last night caused a huge stir. Lee Comley, from Middle Park Way, was snapped up by police at around 7:38pm on Tuesday, 1 July.
He faces serious allegations of sending sexually explicit messages to a child online. The arrest attracted more than 100 local residents, some of whom chanted and threw objects as officers took Comley into custody.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the tense stand-off.
Dispersal Order Imposed Amid Public Unrest
In response to the crowd’s unrest, police slapped a dispersal order on the area, effective until midday on Friday, 4 July. Officers are patrolling to calm nerves and stop any further disturbances.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said:
“We were called at 7.38pm on Tuesday 1 July to reports of a man suspected of sending explicit messages to a child online. Officers arrested Lee Comley, who has now been charged and remanded. We recognise the public reaction and have implemented a dispersal order to maintain community safety.”
Justice Urged, Police Appeal for Help

Comley is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 3 July, where he will face the charges.
