Lewisham Man Jailed for Life Over Grisly Family Murders
Joshua Jacques, 29, from Lewisham, has been handed a life sentence today for the brutal murders of his girlfriend and three family members – crimes he committed while high on drugs and alcohol.
‘I’m Truly Sorry’ – Killer’s Chilling Statement
At the Old Bailey on March 1, Jacques’ barrister read a chilling apology from the convicted killer. “I am truly and sincerely sorry for all of the anguish, pain and heartache I have caused,” Jacques said. “I am disgusted with myself and I cannot believe that I am the cause of this monstrosity.”
Four Lives Shattered in Brutal Attack
Jacques fatally stabbed 27-year-old girlfriend Samantha Drummonds, her mother Tanysha Ofori-Akuffo, grandmother Dolet Hill, and Dolet’s partner Denton Burke in a horrifying scene at their Bermondsey home. The Old Bailey judge described it as a “horrific catalogue of murders” spanning three generations.
Mr Justice Bryan linked the killings to Jacques’ abuse of skunk cannabis, warning of the “dangerous impact” drugs have on mental health. Despite claims of mental illness, a jury found Jacques guilty on all counts after just two hours of deliberation.
Community Shaken as Victims’ Families React
Jacques remained cold and emotionless as he was sentenced to life with a minimum 46-year term. A cry of “murderer” rang out from the public gallery. Previously claiming the murders were a “sacrifice,” Jacques now professes disbelief at his actions.
Victim impact statements painted a grim picture of grief. Tracey-Ann Henry, daughter of the grandmother and sister of the mother killed, said the ordeal felt “like something from a horror movie.” Danny Ofori-Akuffo, husband of Tanysha, spoke of the unbearable pain of identifying his wife’s body and the heartbreak that followed.
The grim case leaves a lasting scar on the Lewisham community. Jacques’ sentence marks the end of a tragic saga that has shocked the capital.
