Man on Trial for 1992 Murder of Nine-Year-Old Nikki Allan
David Boyd Accused of Killing Young Girl in Sunderland
David Boyd, 55, from Chesterton Court, Stockton-on-Tees, faces charges over the brutal murder of nine-year-old Nikki Allan. The killing took place in Sunderland’s Old Exchange building back in October 1992.
Dark Past and Disturbing Confessions
Boyd has a prior conviction for indecent assault. Prosecutor Richard Wright KC revealed a probation officer’s report where Boyd admitted a “sexual” attraction to young girls. The court heard that Boyd had approached two girls, aged nine and 12, with alarming intentions.
Crucial DNA Match Links Boyd to the Crime
In 2017, officers collected DNA samples from 829 men tied to Nikki, the Wear Garth flat block, the Old Exchange building, and the Hendon area. Detective Inspector Chris Deavin confirmed that only Boyd’s DNA was found on Nikki’s T-shirts and leggings — the strongest evidence connecting him to the crime.
Boyd Denies Murder as Trial Continues
Despite the DNA match, Boyd denies all charges. Judge Mrs Justice Christina Lambert has cautioned jurors not to place too much emphasis on his prior convictions during deliberations. The trial is ongoing.
