Man and Woman Arrested After One-Year-Old Baby Airlifted to Hospital on Isle of Wight
Baby Rushed to Hospital in Serious Condition
A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested after a one-year-old baby was airlifted to hospital in critical condition on the Isle of Wight.
Emergency crews scrambled to a Newport home at around 11:30am on Saturday, 2 August. Witnesses reported seeing paramedics carry a “limp” child from the property and rush them into an ambulance.
The baby was flown to southampton-general-hospital/" title="Southampton General Hospital" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton General Hospital for urgent treatment. Their current condition remains unknown.
Suspects Arrested and Released on Bail
Hampshire Police quickly arrested the man and woman from Newport on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. Both have since been released on conditional bail pending further investigation until 1 November 2025.
“We were called at 11.34am on Friday, August 1, to a report of a child being taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Police Urge Public to Stop Speculating
Inspector Oly Greenhowe reassured the community that detectives are working around the clock to get to the bottom of the case.
“This is understandably a troubling incident for the community, and we want to reassure residents that a dedicated team of officers is actively working to establish the full circumstances. We are urging people to stop speculating online about this case. Speculation and rumours are not only unhelpful but can actively hinder the progress of our investigation. If anyone has relevant information, they should contact the police directly.”
