Man Bailed After Hamas Protest Arrest in Central London

A 31-year-old man has been bailed following his arrest at a pro-Palestine demonstration in Whitehall, central London, earlier this week.

Arrest Over Hamas Banner

The arrest happened on Tuesday, 17 October, during a protest where the man was suspected of displaying a banner linked to Hamas, a proscribed organisation under UK law. Officers initially detained him under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Further Charges and Custody

He was later re-arrested on suspicion of inviting support for a proscribed group, this time under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act. The man was taken into police custody in London for questioning.

Police Raid Linked Addresses

Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command also carried out searches at homes in east London and County Durham related to the investigation. These raids are a key part of the ongoing probe.

The suspect has now been released on bail and is due to appear in court in November.
