Man Charged After Bognor Regis Blaze Puts Woman’s Life at Risk
Police have charged a man with arson with intent to endanger life following a terrifying fire in Bognor Regis.
Midnight Fire Rescue
Fire crews rushed to a property on Priestley Way shortly after midnight on Saturday, August 1, after reports of a blaze. They heroically rescued a 46-year-old woman from a top-floor window using a ladder.
The victim was treated for smoke inhalation at hospital. Thankfully, no other injuries were reported.
Two Men Arrested, One in Custody
Steven Chandler, 32, from Priestley Way, has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life. He was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 3.
A second 32-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of the same offence but has been bailed pending further investigations.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while this investigation is underway,” said Detective Inspector Steve Cobbett.
“Anyone who witnessed what happened or saw anything suspicious is asked to report online or call 101, quoting Operation North.”
