A 21-year-old man has been charged after a savage attack at Medway Maritime Hospital left a staff member seriously hurt.

Chaos at Medway Maritime Hospital

Kent Police were called to the hospital in Windmill Road, Gillingham, on the morning of Saturday 20 December 2025 following reports of a violent disturbance at 9.40am. During the mayhem, a hospital worker and several visitors were assaulted.

The staff member suffered a serious facial injury and needed urgent medical care. Police swiftly arrested the suspect on scene.

The brutality didn’t end there. Officials say the man launched attacks on three officers after being taken into custody.

Serious Charges and Custody for Suspect

Onyekewazie Abuah, from Maidstone Road, Chatham, appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 22 December.

  • Charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent
  • Two counts of assault
  • Three counts of assaulting police officers

Abuah was remanded in custody and is due back in court on Tuesday 30 December.
