Adrian Lawton, 31, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court today accused of murdering 17-month-old Jayla-Jean McLaren. Once from Dairy Crest Drive, Newport, Lawton is now homeless. He spoke only to confirm his name before Judge Bowes KC.
Toddler Found with Horrific Injuries
The tragic case began in the early hours of Friday, 1 August last year. Baby Jayla-Jean was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital with severe injuries. She was then airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for specialist treatment.
Serious Charges Laid
Lawton faces charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. The court heard little from him during the brief hearing.
