Shock in the City: Man Faces Multiple Sexual Offence Charges
A 19-year-old man has been charged with a string of sexual offences that have rattled the local community. The incidents, which unfolded over the past month, sparked a swift police investigation across the city.
Disturbing Attacks Spark Police Probe
The first incident was reported on Friday, June 1, 2024, when a man approached a woman in Market Way. He allegedly tried to start a conversation before inappropriately touching her over her clothes. Just two days later, on June 3, a similar episode was reported on Suffolk Road, involving the same type of unwanted contact.
The most recent episode occurred on Monday, June 10, in Hales Drive. The suspect attempted to grope a woman, but she fought him off. Authorities immediately launched a formal investigation into these alarming events.
Suspect Apprehended and Charged
On Wednesday, June 12, officers from canterbury/" title="Canterbury" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Canterbury’s Community Safety Unit arrested Athian Majak, 19, a resident of Downs Road, Canterbury. He faces two counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted sexual assault linked to the recent incidents.
But the charges don’t stop there. Majak is also accused of offences dating back to December 2023, including two counts of sexual assault and two of indecent exposure.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Majak was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court later the same day. The case remains under investigation as police continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
