Man Arrested for Sexual Assault in Worthing Town Centre

A 53-year-old man is in custody after a sexual assault was reported near the Guildbourne Centre on Chapel Road, Worthing, on the evening of Tuesday, August 8.

Suspect in Custody

Police swiftly responded to the disturbing incident around 9pm. Richard Dawkins, from Northbrook Road, Broadwater, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He has since been formally charged and appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on August 10. Dawkins remains in custody ahead of his next hearing at Lewes Crown Court on September 7.

Victim’s Identity Protected

The identity of the victim is being kept confidential for legal reasons. Officers trained in sensitive handling are providing support to the individual involved.
