The drama unfolded at around 2.47pm near the junction with Stainbeck Avenue. Emergency services sprang into action after the ambulance service raised the alarm. Armed police quickly tracked down the victim a short distance away, discovering him with a gunshot wound.
The man, a local resident, was rushed to hospital where medics confirmed his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
