Drunk Driver Smashes into Party Marquee, Injures 21 – Jailed for 16 Months
A Salisbury man has been locked up for 16 months after crashing his car into a marquee at a private party – injuring 21 guests, including three seriously hurt.
Marquee Mayhem After Boozy Crash
Peter Bialek, 66, of London Road, Salisbury, was under the influence when he drove his silver Mercedes straight into a packed marquee at Middle Wallop on October 3, 2015.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of wounding or causing grievous bodily harm without intent, plus one count of causing bodily harm by reckless driving.
Judgment Passed: Jail and Driving Ban
At 1 Crown Court, Mr Justice Teare sentenced Bialek to 16 months behind bars. He was also disqualified from driving for 24 months, ensuring he stays off the roads for two years.
Police Warn of Deadly Risks of Drunk Driving
“Bialek chose to get behind the wheel that night, despite having consumed alcohol,” said PC Stephen Johnson.
“His reckless act left many injured, some seriously, and could have been much worse.
“This sentence is a stark warning: driving under the influence is not worth the risk.”
