Brutal Ammonia Attack Lands Thug Behind Bars for 8 Years

A savage attacker who forced his way into a man’s home in Driffield, sprayed ammonia in his face, slashed him with a knife, and stamped on his leg, breaking it, has been locked up for more than eight years.

Jordan Shields, 36, from Bridlington, was sentenced to eight years and two months at Hull Crown Court on Monday, March 16, 2026. The shocking assault took place in December 2024.

Terrifying Home Invasion and Police Hunt

Shields and two accomplices stormed a flat on Middle Street South around 6pm and launched the vicious attack. The victim suffered serious injuries to his face, arms, and leg, requiring surgery.

  • Police quickly launched a manhunt
  • Scoured CCTV and conducted door-to-door inquiries
  • Forensic evidence and DNA tied Shields to the crime

Two officers recognised Shields’ voice on CCTV, leading to his arrest. A search of his home uncovered an empty ammonia bottle matching the one used in the attack, hidden in a wardrobe.

Guilty Plea and History of Crime

Shields initially denied involvement but pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary on day two of his trial in August 2025. He also breached an 18-month suspended sentence for drug offences.

“Shields showed callous disregard for the victim’s suffering, trying to dodge justice until the overwhelming evidence forced his hand. Thanks to our officers’ hard work and public help, we caught him,” said Detective Inspector Tracy St Paul.
