Man Jailed for Life Over Brutal Murder of Irish Pensioner
Frail Pensioner Followed and Attacked
Peter Augustine, 59, stalked 87-year-old John Mackey from Kilkenny, Ireland, last May. The pensioner was followed to a quiet walkway near his home in Manor House, north London.
Augustine launched a savage attack, beating and stamping on Mr Mackey before stealing his sausage and chips takeaway and shopping.
Pensioner Dies Days After Attack
Mr Mackey, originally from Callan, Co Kilkenny, died in hospital two days later from his injuries. The shocking assault left the vulnerable pensioner helpless and robbed of his life.
Life Sentence Delivered at Old Bailey
Earlier this month, a jury at the Old Bailey found Augustine guilty of murder and robbery. On Friday, he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 23 years behind bars.
