Man Jailed Over Dad’s Fatal Head Injury in Emsworth
Tarin Linfield, 21, has been locked up for over five years after killing dad Stephen Harrington in Emsworth. The 47-year-old was found with a severe head injury on Marlpit Lane on July 23, 2022, and sadly died two days later in hospital.
Guilty of Manslaughter and Theft Conspiracy
Linfield, from Hambrook, denied murder but was convicted of manslaughter and conspiracy to steal. He was sentenced to seven years, cut to five years and four months thanks to a guilty plea. He also received a 15-month sentence for conspiracy to steal, served at the same time.
Joseph Butler, 23, also from Hambrook, pleaded not guilty to murder but admitted conspiracy to steal. He got a 15-month suspended sentence.
Third Suspect Dies Before Trial
Another accused, Goldring, 21, was charged with murder but died in custody before the case went to trial. His statements were ruled inadmissible in court.
Blow to Head From Wooden Object
Prosecutors said the group targeted Stephen to steal from him. Police found he died from a heavy head blow, likely caused by a wooden object.
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Hicks said, “Our thoughts are with Stephen’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We hope this conviction brings them some closure.”
