Man Banged Up for Carrying Baseball Bat on London Streets
A man caught red-handed with a baseball bat has been locked up. Akeme Simms, 26, from NW10, was arrested after officers found the weapon in his car during a stop in Harlesden.
Baseball Bat Found in Blue BMW
On Saturday, 18 August, police stopped a blue BMW on Craven Park Road under a Section 60 order targeting Harlesden and Kensal Green. Officers discovered a black baseball bat in the rear footwell behind the driver’s seat.
Simms claimed he carried the bat for protection. But the courts had no sympathy.
Quick Justice at Willesden Magistrates’ Court
Simms appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court two days later, where he pled guilty to possession of an offensive weapon. He was sentenced to 56 days in jail.
Police Crackdown on Violent Crime
Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Rose said: “Over the weekend, borough officers supported by the Violent Crime Taskforce undertook a pre-planned operation in Harlesden aimed to disrupt criminality and tackle violent crime. Part of this operation involved the use of stop and search powers, which in this instance resulted in the seizure of an offensive weapon and the apprehension of the individual intent on carrying it.
“Operations like this happen every day. The message is clear – we are out day and night using lawful tactics like stop and search to keep London safe. Don’t carry a weapon, because we will stop you and bring you to justice.”
