Man Jailed for Brutal Stabbing of 74-Year-Old in Winchester
Andrew Richardson, 24, has been locked up for plunging a knife into a 74-year-old man in Winchester. The attack happened at a home on Lower Stanmore Lane in the early hours of 29 November last year.
Ten Years Inside for Multiple Stabs
Richardson, from Portal Road, Winchester, admitted wounding with intent and possession of offensive weapons in public. Today at 1 Crown Court, he was sentenced to 10 years behind bars, plus an extended 4-year licence period.
The victim was stabbed multiple times, but luckily, his injuries were not life-threatening. Richardson was swiftly nabbed later that same morning.
Police React to Shocking Attack
Detective Constable Drew Wright said: “This was a disturbing act of violence which could have had more serious consequences. Richardson was arrested soon after committing this offence, and we hope that residents feel reassured that he has now been brought to justice.”
“While knife crime is very rare in Winchester, and it remains a safe place to live and work, our officers are not complacent about detecting and preventing such high harm offences.”
Winchester remains a safe town, but this sentence sends a strong message: violence will not be tolerated.
