Knife-Crazed Joel Elliott Jailed for Over Ten Years in Brighton
Joel Elliott, 34, from Springfield Road, Brighton, has been locked up for a decade-plus after admitting to two terrifying violent attacks last October.
Violent Spree Rocks Brighton Streets
On the early morning of October 9, Elliott aggressively robbed a victim on Trafalgar Street, stealing possessions including a wallet. Then, barely two weeks later, on October 22, Elliott brutally attacked a woman at a Brighton home. He tried to strangle her and held a knife to her throat in a terrifying display of control and threat.
Charged with Serious Crimes
Arrested the same day as the second attack, Elliott faced multiple charges authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service. These included grievous bodily harm, robbery, possession of a knife in public, threats to kill, assault, coercive behaviour, suffocation, and rape (the latter lying on file).
At his hearings, Elliott pleaded guilty to robbery, knife possession, threats, controlling behaviour, and suffocation. The rape charge was left on file.
Harsh Sentence for a Dangerous Offender
On May 10, at Lewes Crown Court, Elliott was sentenced to 10 years and six months behind bars. The judge warned, “You won’t be released until your attitude towards carrying knives changes.”
Police Praise Teamwork That Took Violent Offender Off the Streets
Detective Sergeant Victoria Thornton-Green hailed the joint efforts across departments for securing the conviction. She declared, “A man with complete disregard for the law, a danger to the community, has been removed. Our community is safer because of this.”
She also thanked those who helped the investigation, enabling victims to start their recovery and rebuild their lives.
