Lorry Driver Jailed for Deadly Crash on A34
A lorry driver has been handed a seven-year prison sentence after a fatal smash on the A34. Dean Moffat, 48, from Peterlee, County Durham, caused a deadly collision on the southbound carriageway near Bullington Cross on November 11, 2019.
Tragic Crash Behind Sutton Scotney Services
Ric Mboma, 60, of Feltham, London, was driving his Toyota Corolla when a tyre blew out, forcing him to stop in the first lane. Minutes later, Moffat’s lorry crashed into the stationary car between 8:10pm and 8:15pm.
Mr Mboma died at the scene. Two teenage passengers in the Corolla survived but suffered serious injuries.
Seven Years and Driving Ban for Moffat
Moffat escaped injury but faced justice at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, May 7. He was convicted of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving, plus an offence of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of Ric Mboma,” said PS Jonathan Bates of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. “This sentence hopefully offers some closure. It’s a stark warning: stay alert on the roads. One moment’s inattention can ruin lives forever.”
