Man’s Body Found in Portsmouth Harbour After Ferry Incident

A man’s body has been recovered from Portsmouth Harbour this morning, five days after he was seen jumping from a Wightlink ferry.

Mayday Call Sparks Massive Search

Wightlink staff raised the alarm with a Mayday call and launched a rescue boat immediately. A large-scale search by Hampshire and Ministry of Defence police, along with rescue teams, scoured the waters. Despite their efforts, the grim discovery was made at 7.16am near Haslar Wall, Gosport.

Recovery Operation Underway

The body was found by a Ministry of Defence police launch. Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue helped with the recovery operation. Police have not yet released the identity of the man, as investigations continue.

Case Prepared for Coronial Inquest

Hampshire Police confirmed they are preparing a file for the Portsmouth Coroner as formal inquiries get underway.
