Burglar Busted on CCTV – Jailed Within 24 Hours
A bungling burglar caught on CCTV breaking into a Rochester hair salon has been locked up for a year – just one day after his arrest.
Repeat Raid on High Street Salon
Mark Dunn, 41, from Maidstone Road, Chatham, hit the salon twice on the night of October 3 and 4. Security footage showed him forcing a glass door open at 10.30pm, rummaging through the till – which was empty – before vanishing.
Seven hours later, Dunn returned with a woman. This time, he made off with hairdryers, straighteners, and hair extensions. Staff found the damage the following Monday morning.
Fast Police Action Nails the Culprit
Kent Police quickly gathered CCTV evidence and identified Dunn. He was spotted by a constable on patrol in Railway Street the next evening and arrested on the spot.
Dunn pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and was sentenced at Medway Magistrates’ Court on October 7, during his remand hearing.
Police Praise Quick Justice, Second Suspect Bailed
Detective Constable Dan Bister said: “It is exceptionally pleasing to have obtained a good result for the victims of this crime in such quick time. We do not underestimate the impact offending of this nature has on businesses and will always put together the strongest possible case to ensure offenders are removed from the streets.”
A woman, 44-year-old Jody Mayne, also from Maidstone Road, has been charged with one count of burglary. She has been released on bail and will appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on December 23.
