Old Bailey Drama: Dad Defends Partner in Baby Death Case
Mark Gordon has told the Old Bailey that his partner, Constance Marten, “would never do anything to harm a child.” This came as the couple face serious manslaughter charges over the death of their baby daughter, Victoria.
“Excellent Mother” Claims Dad in Police Interview
During a police interview on 2nd March, Gordon described Marten as an “excellent mother” who desperately wanted the child. The couple denies all charges against them.
At first, Gordon was reluctant to answer police questions but opened up after learning Marten had revealed details about the baby’s fate. He called Marten a “very special” woman who could never harm a child.
Couple’s Tragic Story Unfolds
Gordon highlighted Marten’s post-traumatic stress and their shared dream of having a baby. He described the death as traumatic and reaffirmed his love and support for her.
He also mentioned a car fire near Manchester and said he’s a sensitive guy who stood by Marten, believing she cared for their child properly.
On the Run and Facing Serious Charges
The trial revealed the couple vanished for weeks after Marten’s four other children were taken into care, camping off-grid. Their baby’s body was later found in a disused shed on an allotment in March last year.
Besides manslaughter, Marten and Gordon face charges of cruelty, concealing the baby’s birth, and perverting the course of justice. They deny all counts.
The trial continues at the Old Bailey.
