Essex Man Jailed for Attempting to Pay for Child Sex Abuse
Matthew Millen, 44, from Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, was found guilty yesterday at Southampton Crown Court for trying to pay for the sexual services of an 11-year-old girl. Today, Millen was locked up for three years.
Sinister Online Grooming Leads to Arrest
Between 1 and 14 March 2019, Millen engaged in online chats arranging to pay for the abuse of a child. On 14 March, he travelled from Essex to Southampton, where police swooped and arrested him.
Thankfully, there was no real victim—instead, it was a sting operation carried out by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU).
Detective Slams Millen’s ‘Depravity’
“This was a particularly distressing case where Millen thought he was paying for the sexual services of a child that was only 11 years old,” said Detective Constable Colin Haynes of SEROCU. “During the trial, Millen claimed he was trying to expose other offenders. The jury didn’t buy it and found him guilty.”
“This shows the shocking lengths Millen was willing to go to commit child sex abuse. SEROCU officers worked tirelessly to bring him to justice.”
Police Warn Public: Report Suspicious Behaviour
SEROCU emphasized that protecting children remains their top priority. If you suspect child sexual exploitation or have been a victim, report it immediately to your local police by calling 101. Don’t take matters into your own hands.
