Medway Residents Warned After Night of Crime Spree
Four separate break-ins rocked Medway in the early hours, sparking fresh safety warnings for locals.
Four Incidents Hit Medway Between 3am and 4am
On 12 April 2020, thieves targeted homes along South Avenue and The Chase in Gillingham. Between 3am and 4am, two vehicles – a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a black Mercedes C220 – were stolen. Meanwhile, a designer coat vanished from an unlocked porch. Other residents reported suspicious noises and damage to their front doors.
Police Urge Extra Caution to Stop Opportunist Thieves
Detective Constable Dan Bister of the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad warned: “Burglars are opportunist thieves and will be on the lookout for easy properties to target.” He urged people to keep car keys, cash, and valuables out of sight.
He added, “Electronic car keys can be stored in signal blocking pouches to stop criminals from scanning them. Double-lock uPVC doors and windows. Use timer switches on lights and radios.”
Police Seek CCTV Footage From Local Residents
Officers asked those living on The Chase and South Avenue to check their CCTV between 3am and 4am on 12 April. Police want anyone who may have captured suspicious activity to come forward.
