Drug-Driver Banned for Three Years After Police Spot Cannabis Smell in Trowbridge

Stopped and Sniffed Out

Daniel Palmer, 29, was caught red-handed after police stopped his Nissan Note on Stallard Street, Trowbridge last October. Officers on patrol noticed a strong smell of cannabis. A roadside drug wipe test came back positive for cannabis, sparking his arrest.

More Drugs Found in Custody

Once in police custody, Palmer was searched and caught with a small stash of amphetamine, a Class B drug. The drugs sealed his fate as he faced the courts.

Swift Justice at Swindon Magistrates Court

This week, Palmer pleaded guilty to drug-driving and possession charges at Swindon Magistrates Court. The judge handed him a three-year driving ban, an £80 fine, and a community order with unpaid work.

PC Paul Brewster, Roads Policing Unit, warned: “Driving under the influence of drugs is one of the ‘fatal four’ causes of serious injury or fatal crashes. If you suspect someone’s driving while drugged or drunk, call us. We will take action.”
