Orpington Duo Smash and Grab Cars in Brutal Daylight Raids
On September 4, 2024, Thomas Ripley, 29, and Lewis Turner, 34, from Orpington, launched a savage daylight attack at Dartford Heath. Wearing masks, they smashed the driver’s side window of a parked Seat Ibiza, punched the motorist, dragged him from the car, then stole his keys and drove off in the vehicle.
Metal Bar Attack and Stolen Bank Card Swipe Shock
Just four days later, on September 8, the same ruthless pair struck again. A white Ford Focus pulled up near a layby, where they ambushed another driver resting inside. The victims were dragged from their cars, punched, and battered with a metal bar before their vehicles were grabbed.
But the thugs didn’t stop there. They also swiped the victim’s bank card and used it less than an hour later at a shop in Orpington.
CCTV and Phone Data Crack Open Case
Police tracked down Ripley’s home in Orpington on September 13, recovering a Seat Leon car key with false number plates. Mobile phone messages revealed chats between Ripley, Turner, and a third man, Billy Scamp, arranging meet-ups and dealing stolen cars.
Footage captured the stolen cars minutes before both heists. Turner and Scamp were arrested almost a year later, on October 3, 2025.
Detectives pieced together cell site data and CCTV, showing Turner using the stolen bank card and topping up a burner phone, tying all three men to the crimes.
