42 Men Jailed in Massive East London Drug Bust
Met Police from Hackney and Tower Hamlets have smashed a huge drug ring, locking up 42 men over three years. The operation shut down 14 drug supply lines flooding Hampshire and Brighton with millions in illegal substances.
Final Sentences Handed at Snaresbrook Crown Court
The last 18 conspirators were sentenced between January 22 and 25 at Snaresbrook Crown Court, collectively receiving over 150 years behind bars for trafficking cocaine, heroin, crack, MDMA, ketamine, and cannabis.
The other 24 men had already been locked up for more than 220 years in total, following earlier convictions.
Inside the Sophisticated Drug Network
Police cracked the case after seizing two phones in 2020, unlocking vast troves of messages that exposed a slick network. Fourteen different county lines — systems where drugs are moved from one area to another for sale — were traced and closed down.
Officers revealed how dealers ran shifts, masquerading as cab drivers, to move around 37 kilograms of drugs across East London and beyond.
Specialist teams, teaming up with local police, executed 49 search warrants, arresting and charging 42 men involved in drug supply.
Seizures, Support & Community Impact
- £54,000 worth of jewellery seized
- £200,000 in cash confiscated
- £83,000 of drugs taken off the streets
Detective Superintendent Georgina Zumeris said: “This investigation shows Met officers going above and beyond to make our communities safer by removing drug dealers from east London. Drugs destroy lives and fuel violence and antisocial behaviour.”
She added that four of the arrested men battling addiction were spared jail and given Rehabilitation Orders, highlighting a focus on diverting people away from crime while safeguarding vulnerable individuals.
Detective Constable Megan Bushell, the investigating officer, earned formal praise from the courts for expertly piecing together the network and ensuring early guilty pleas from many defendants.
The Metropolitan Police’s New Met for London strategy aims to keep communities safe by tackling crime head-on—and this bust showcases exactly that commitment.
Drugs ruin lives. The Met is determined to fight back and change the game when it comes to keeping London safe.
