Met Police Volunteer Convicted of Child Rape

A serving Metropolitan Police volunteer has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences, including the horrific rape of a child under 13.

Gwyn Samuels, Formerly James Bubb, Found Guilty

Gwyn Samuels, who was previously known as James Bubb, was convicted on Thursday, 28 August at amersham-buckinghamshire/">Amersham Law Courts. The Thames Valley Police-led trial, which started on 11 August, revealed disturbing details of his crimes.

Shocking Offences Spanning Six Years

The offences took place between January 2018 and April 2024 across London and Buckinghamshire, all while Bubb was off-duty from his police volunteer role.

  • Victim One:
    • Assault of a child under 13 by penetration
    • Rape of a child under 13
    • Sexual activity with a child
    • Assault by penetration
  • Victim Two:
    • One count of rape

Bubb was acquitted of an additional rape charge and one count of sexual activity with a child related to victim one.

Met Police Suspends Volunteer Immediately

Bubb joined the Metropolitan Police as a Special Constable in the Central West team in September 2020. After Thames Valley Police arrested him, he was suspended on 30 April 2024.

“The actions of Bubb are completely despicable, and I commend the victim-survivors for their bravery in coming forward, ultimately leading to this conviction today,” said Commander Simon Stancombe, head of the Met’s Anti-Corruption and Abuse Command.

“No complaints had previously been made about Bubb’s conduct while serving as a Special Constable. Now that criminal proceedings have concluded, we will seek his dismissal.”

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified and will take further action.

Name Change and Identity Revealed

The court heard Bubb has since legally changed his name to Gwyn Samuels and identifies as a transgender woman.

Sentencing Awaited

Samules will be sentenced at Amersham Law Courts on a date yet to be set.
