West Midlands Ambulance Service Bags £ Multi-Million Boost
The West Midlands is about to get a major ambulance upgrade. Thanks to a fresh multi-million-pound cash injection from the Department of Health and Social Care, frontline ambulances will surge by 5%. That’s 23 spanking new vehicles pushing the total fleet to 500.
Speedier Saves and Greener Gears
More ambulances means quicker help when every second counts. But WMAS isn’t just adding numbers—they’re going green, too. By March, eight fully electric ambulances will be on the streets, cutting emissions and noise.
West Midlands Ambulance Service led the way in 2020 as the UK’s first to trial electric ambulances. They stick to a strict five-year replacement plan, proving their green NHS credentials.
Fleet Growth Ramps Up Through 2026
The 23 new ambulances are only the beginning. WMAS aims to have 142 fresh vehicles on the road by March 2026. Already, 87 of these new ambulances are cruising the region, saving lives.
WMAS Boss: “More Ambulances Mean Faster Saves”
Anthony Marsh, WMAS CEO, said: “This investment means more ambulances on the road, more capacity for our crews and faster help for patients when they need us most.Every vehicle plays a part in saving lives, and increasing our fleet strengthens our ability to respond to emergencies across the West Midlands. We’re also proud to continue investing in modern and electric vehicles, supporting both our staff and our commitment to a greener NHS.”
