Kent Police Launch Crackdown on Reckless Drug Drivers

From Monday 23rd to Sunday 29th August 2021, Kent Police will ramp up patrols across the county. Their mission? To hunt down and nail drivers who get behind the wheel while high on drugs.

High-Risk Spots Under Watch

Officers will be roaming hot spots day and night, armed with roadside drug wipes and field impairment tests. Any driver showing signs of drug impairment will be stopped, arrested, and charged. Police are pulling no punches in this intelligence-led operation.

Drug Driving: One of the Deadly ‘Fatal 4’ Causes

Drug driving is a major killer on UK roads, listed among the ‘Fatal 4’ causes of serious crashes. Chief Inspector Elena Hall from Kent Police’s Roads Policing Unit said,

“The impact of drug driving can be devastating. Drivers risk not only their own lives but the lives of passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists.”

She added, “If you are caught drug driving, expect prison time, an unlimited fine, and a driving ban. There is no excuse for driving under the influence of illegal substances.”

Local Authorities Back the Blitz

Kent Police aren’t working alone. They’re teaming up with Kent County Council and Medway Council to send a clear message.

Kent County Council’s Highways boss, David Brazier, warned,

“Taking drugs and driving can cause blurred vision, erratic behaviour, dizziness, hallucinations, panic attacks and more. It’s not just illegal; it’s bloody dangerous.”

Medway Council’s Phil Filmer agreed, saying,

“There’s never an excuse for driving under the influence. It puts lives at risk and wrecks families. We urge everyone to act responsibly and keep our roads safe.”
