Murderer Urged to ‘Man Up’ and Face Justice 12 Years After Fleeing UK Detectives are renewing their call for the fugitive wanted over the murder of Norwegian student Martine Vik Magnussen to return to Britain.
12 Years Since Night of Terror in London
It’s been 12 years since 23-year-old Martine was brutally murdered in central London after a night out with friends on 14 March 2008. From the outset, Farouk Abdulhak, now 33, emerged as the prime suspect. But just hours after Martine’s death, Abdulhak vanished – fleeing the UK via Egypt and then Yemen.
Detective Demands Fugitive Return
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge, leading the murder probe, hit out at Abdulhak’s cowardice:
“The dignity and courage shown by the Magnussen family over the past 12 years stand in stark contrast to Abdulhak’s actions. He chose to run and hide, hoping this case would disappear. It won’t.”
Partridge added:
“It must be clear to him now that his dreams and plans for the future in the UK are dead in the water while he remains a wanted man. I urge Abdulhak to come back and face justice. Anyone in contact with him should persuade him to do the right thing.”
How Martine’s Murder Unfolded
- Martine’s friends reported her missing on 15 March 2008 after a night celebrating her end-of-term exams.
- She left Maddox nightclub around 2am in the company of Abdulhak.
- Police discovered Martine’s body in Abdulhak’s Westminster flat block on 16 March under rubble.
- Post-mortem confirmed strangulation and rape.
- An inquest in 2010 ruled the death unlawful killing.
The hunt for Farouk Abdulhak continues as detectives vow not to let this case fade away. The Magnussen family deserves justice, and the clock is ticking for the fugitive to “man up” and return to Britain.
