Neighbour Guilty of Murder in Chilling Flat Fire Tragedy

Jamie Barrow has been found guilty of murdering his neighbours—a mother and her two young daughters—in a horrific flat fire in Clifton, Nottingham last year.

Fire Set Deliberately Despite Victims Inside

Barrow admitted starting the blaze but claimed he didn’t know Fatoumatta Hydara, 28, and her daughters Fatimah, three, and Naeemah, one, were inside. But Nottingham Crown Court heard otherwise. A pram was spotted outside the flat’s front door and lights were on inside, proving someone was home during the deadly inferno.

Ignored Calls for Help – Family Left Devastated

Prosecutors revealed Barrow ignored desperate cries for help and did nothing to save the victims trapped in the fire. Family man Aboubacarr Drammeh, husband and father to the victims, called Barrow “utterly heartless and cruel,” condemning the horrific torment inflicted on their family for generations to come.

“This has caused a multigenerational trauma that we will never understand,” Mr Drammeh said after the verdict.

Jury Rejects Manslaughter Plea – Finds Barrow Guilty of Murder

Barrow, who lived next door on Fairisle Close, had initially admitted manslaughter but the jury unanimously convicted him of murder after nearly seven hours of deliberation. The court heard he doused the victims’ flat letterbox with petrol after drinking several cans of San Miguel lager, acting out of anger over rubbish blocking an alleyway.

He was also found guilty of reckless arson endangering life. Family members were left in tears as the verdict was read.

Police Call Barrow ‘Cruel and Dangerous’ as Sentencing Looms

Detective Chief Inspector Clare Dean described Barrow as a “cruel and dangerous man.” Sentencing is set for Friday.

This tragic case is a brutal reminder of the devastating impact of such violent acts on families and communities. Fatoumatta and her daughters—full of hopes and dreams—were cruelly taken away, leaving loved ones to carry the unbearable pain.
