Newhaven’s Big Plans to Boost Economy by 2030
Newhaven, the Sussex port town, is ready to make waves as a regional economic powerhouse by 2030. The Newhaven Enterprise Zone has launched a bold three-year plan to ramp up the town’s marine, industrial, and creative sectors while luring fresh investment.
Locals Demand a Shopping and Dining Shake-Up
A recent survey of Newhaven business owners showed plenty of appetite for sprucing up the town’s look. They want better shops and eateries to fire up the local economy and attract more visitors and spending.
Enterprise Zone’s Vision: Sustainable Growth and Job Creation
Corinne Day, the programme director, said the goal is to drive sustainable economic growth and business resilience. “We’re transforming Newhaven’s town centre into a buzzing hub for creativity and thriving businesses,” she said. The focus is on growth sectors that’ll make Newhaven a key regional player.
Green Growth and Business Boosts on the Agenda
The Enterprise Zone’s mission includes backing low-carbon and greener business moves. Since 2017, they’ve helped unlock development spots, attracted companies, and created jobs across Newhaven.
Support for Businesses and Reviving Town Centre
To hit its goals, the Enterprise Zone offers support to unlock new sites and ensures plenty of land for growth. It aims to nurture a welcoming environment for marine, creative, and manufacturing firms to generate quality jobs.
Plans also include revamping Newhaven Town Centre, pushing for net zero emissions by 2040, and promoting the town as a top spot to invest, live, work, and visit.
Business Rate Relief Fuels Investment and Job Growth
Businesses benefiting from Enterprise Zone rate relief have invested £20.4m into their operations, with another £2.8m planned for 2023. They’ve created over 600 jobs, refurbished 70,000 sq m of commercial space, and added 2,900 sq m of new floorspace.
The survey highlighted that the rate relief and strategic location are key reasons firms choose Newhaven.
