Speed Demon Michael Hayes Jailed for Dangerous 104mph M2 Chase
A reckless driver caught tearing along the M2 at a terrifying 104mph has been locked up for a year. Michael Hayes, 27, from Northfleet, faces serious jail time after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and refusing breath and blood tests.
104mph Chase Ends in Arrest
On the night of January 16, police on routine patrol spotted Hayes smashing the speed limit at 80mph on the A2 near Cobham. He made risky manoeuvres, cutting across lanes at the last second before hitting the M2.
Despite police flashing blue lights and sirens, Hayes sped on, hitting a deadly 104mph. The chase saw him run red lights, drive on the wrong side of the road, and tear through busy streets, putting countless lives at risk.
Tyre-Busting Tactics and Drug Tests
Officers finally brought him to a halt using stinger spikes in Rochester. Tests revealed Hayes was well over the drink-drive limit and had cocaine in his system. He refused further samples at the station, worsening his case.
Previous Offences Reveal Serial Risk-Taker
Hayes wasn’t new to trouble. Back in December 2018, he was caught driving while disqualified and uninsured after suspicious police stopped his car in Gravesend.
“Hayes showed no regard for the safety of other road users when he was being pursued,” said PC Paul Dearing of the Roads Policing Unit. “He put lives in danger and it was sheer luck nobody was hurt. His multiple offences show blatant disrespect for the law. We hope this sentence sends a clear warning.”
